On the evening of Friday, May 13, a severe storm hit Chiang Rai, Thailand. One of our prevention homes, where 17 children were staying, was seriously damaged. As the storm reached the home, the trees around the house began to break and blow away. Then the roof blew off.
The house father who was present at the time took the children to stay in their bedroom. But then the power went out, and the storm picked up even more.
“The wind was so strong. It destroyed the garage as well as the windows and ceilings of the bedroom. After that, a flash flood occurred in the room. So I took the children to hide under the stairs until the storm passed,” recounts the house father. “The children were so scared. I tried to hold them in my hands as much as I could.”
Thankfully, the children and staff were able to weather the storm without injury (they’re currently staying in one of Destiny Rescue’s rescue homes). But the home and outbuildings require significant repairs before the children can return to live there. In the coming weeks, school will begin, and we’ll have as many as 30 kids to house at the prevention home.
THANK YOU for your interest in supporting Child Rescue financially. Together, we can help free children that have been bound, restore those that have been wounded and provide a safer world for them to grow up and live in.
