Destiny Rescue Helps Initiate Philippines Raid; 17 Rescued
Destiny Rescue recently collaborated with another organisation in the Philippines to initiate a police raid in which 17 women and girls caught in the sex trade were rescued. Seven of those rescued were identified as underage.
One of our rescue agents tells the story:
We’ve been developing a relationship with another organisation, which also fights sex trafficking in the Philippines, over the past six months. In mid-January I received a text from one of their operatives asking for assistance on a case. Fortunately, I hadn’t worked in the area in question for some time and was confident my cover was solid.
We headed out to hit the streets and didn’t have to go far to find what we were looking for. Right outside a mall entrance, we were greeted by several “street workers”. We chatted with several girls and pimps, trying to identify any underage girls. It’s still very unsettling for me to have to chat to a pimp and ask for “younger girls”; however, this is often the only way to find them.
We took a short walk along the bright, neon-lit red light district, passing countless KTV’s, bars and nightclubs, all with girls shouting for our attention and trying to get us to party at their bar.
We arrived at a nearby park—a popular spot for families and couples. The lighted fountain makes a nice backdrop for pictures and selfies. Who would have guessed this place is a hub for pimps?
We were approached by one pimp who doubled as a pedicab driver (taking tourists from their hotels to bars in the sidecar of his push bike). He proceeded to tell us he could get us “whatever we were after”. He led us to a small bar just off the main strip and told us to wait there while he organised a few girls. He took over an hour to sort out girls for us to see, which worked in our favour.
It was clear to us that he was involved with a much larger network of people. He brought us a few young girls but we declined taking any of them that night, saying we were tired because he had taken so long. We reassured him that we would do more business together and that we were keen to have a “sex party” with a few wealthy foreigners. We treated him to beer, tipped him well and parted ways.
We handed the evidence we had collected over to the other organisation’s lawyers, who gave it to the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) Anti-Trafficking Division, which fights human trafficking in the Philippines.
The NBI took the case. A “sex party” was then arranged for the following week.
The night of the “party”, in addition to rescuing 17 trafficked women and girls, the police arrested four traffickers. The perpetrators were sent to the Department of Justice the very next morning to face charges. The rescued children were placed in safe living situations where they will be well cared for.
This was such a momentous operation. Seeing what these girls are subjected to night after night, I’m over the moon to know they won’t have to endure anything like that anymore. Their horror story is over.
Destiny Rescue can only do what we do because of our generous donors and supporters. Sponsoring a rescue project in Philippines is a way that you can partner with us to carry out the vision of ending child sexual slavery and exploitation.
